Antibiotic resistance
for dinner
As many of us know, Animals carry a
bunch of germs. A few of those germs are antibiotic resistant. When farmers
give their animals antibiotics all germs except the resistant ones are
eliminated; that includes those good germs as well. That leave an ample amount
of room for the resistant germ to grow and multiply. Ultimately that’s the
start up of antibiotic resistance.
Those animals are then cut up and
sent out to the world for purchase. At this point we as consumers buy our meat
and or produce and we try our best to perform
those steps to preparing a safe meal as previously discussed. When we eat that
meat or produce that has those resistant germs we now have antibiotic resistant
germs in our bodies to affect other germs and multiply in the same manner. Did you
know that these antibiotic resistant germs can pass off their resistant strains
to other existing germs? If you didn’t, now you know.
Lets think about that instance when
you become ill from one of those germs that you have acquired from that yummy
meal you prepared. You are put on antibiotics to get rid of the infection but
those germs are not backing down to the antibiotics leaving you ill. This is
why it is so important that we take as many precautions as we can to prevent
antibiotic resistance.
We have to make it our responsibility
to take a closer look at these foods that we are eating and to know about what
risk we are facing that way we are able to properly prevent illnesses. We are
now all aware of the issues with our food. Now it is up to use to do everything
we can to prevent these dangerous risks. By not casually using antibiotics on
animals or humans we can help. By following the steps to cleaning , separating , cooking and refrigerating
we are able to prevent the spread of these infectious infections.
I once read an article that stated that its the food that is killing us. And after reading your blog i defiantly think there may be some truth to it. Eating these animals with antibiotics in them is hurting us for other diseases that we may get.
ReplyDeleteI never really paid any attention to antibiotic resistance in animals and how much of a negative impact it can cause to our health. It is important that we take many precautions to prevent antibiotic resistance.
ReplyDeleteThis was a very informational post. It is important that we become aware and pay attention to antibiotic resistance. I think it is key to be aware of what we are putting in our bodies and know the possible risks.
ReplyDeleteI never knew anything about antibiotic resistance. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. From these blog posts, I have learned more about keeping me safe and healthy through thoroughly cleaning my meats and produce from now on.
ReplyDeleteSo are those antibiotics in the animal bad for us? I really love meat, I don't care what it is if its seasoned right I'm eating it! But I know once I get sick or feel ill after eating anything like that I would probably change my mind. My friend changed her entire eating habits after eating a polish and getting food poisoning.
ReplyDeleteI've never even heard of antibiotic resistance when it comes to food. Very interesting. Definitely gives us something to think about, on top of how healthy your meal is.
ReplyDeleteInteresting. I feel like I learned about about animal resistance germs. I know meat carry germs and bacteria or different strange but I never knew that they have specific ones that are resistant to cleaning. So once in our bodies, does our immune system auotmatically become resistant?
ReplyDeleteI once read something that said the antibiotics and hormones put into our food can contribute/cause hormone imbalances in humans. Do you believe there is any truth to this?
